life notes; flaws and all

a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

Mondays are just young Fridays

Qualifying questions, remedial response.

Knowledge of situations often haunt.

What we know or have been told.

We tell ourselves we just don’t know.

Answers formed by thoughts untold.

Rumour and misinformation often sold.

Conspiracy theories tend to rule the day.

Bare truth and logic will get in the way.

                 Current Thoughts

           Open your mouth, let words
   bypass lips. Converse consciously
   to brethren or bystanders.
       Reach out to
   close friends gone amiss.
Be not afraid, not now, of
   articulating current thoughts and
   accomplishments of which
you are proud, and even your sins
(for we have all owned a few)
        might seem far less tragic
from an altered point of view.
               Give fresh voice
   to insecurities and anxieties hidden
within your self, speak highly of
      those dusty dreams
            languishing on a shelf.
   Past sullen moments cast a
   lengthy shadow, short-term
   expectations tend to dull down
   long-term possibilities.
Talk freely around all you want,
or hope, or desire to be.
      Each intention will resonate
      with those who wholly believe.
   Understanding takes effort.

cloud songs

        Our paths shift, circumstance and
              attitude shaping our trajectory.
The company we keep alters both
       our outlook and destination.
           We are where we are
mainly because of who we are
                          and whom we are with.

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

Never Clear

Posted on July 3, 2019 by j.g.lewis Leave a comment

Love is more
than an emotion, greater
than a virtue. In fact, love encompasses all virtues,
                                                              and then more.

Whether romantic, affectionate, or familial,
love is a state of mind, shared in kind, and available,
should you choose to accept.

                            Love takes courage.
Love requires pride, and friendship.

Its truthfulness is not always clear, but
it cannot be deceitful.
                                         That is not love.

Not even close.

Love defies definition, resists calculation;
how much, how little, how strong, how
short-lived is the love you hold, or have?

                                                Or have had?

It is not ‘till death do you part,
not always, not surely, not really.

Love’s magnificence is never clear;
it can blind, it can grieve,
given in quantities often larger than it is received.

This is what makes it love.

You cannot keep track of the moments
where love shows its presence, but
you can savour each drop which passes to your being.

You can choose to love, or
you can be indifferent, but where love resides,
there is not room for hate.

Love one another; begin there.

Everything else will fall into place.

This is love.
That is grace.

“Perhaps it is true that we do not really exist until there is
someone there to see us existing, we cannot properly speak
until there is someone there who can understand what we are
saying, in essence, we are not wholly alive until we are loved.”
                                                                  -Alain De Botton
