a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

cloud songs

    Kismet, naturally or unexpectedly,
holds sway on this or any other day.
       If we choose to notice.
If we permit ourselves to linger
a moment or three in a transitive state
between elements of darkness and bright,
           morning quells emotions and
   disruptive thoughts we once embraced.

Mondays are just young Fridays

Dented, bruised, scuffed up and circumstantial, the imperfections are obvious.
   It goes past superficial.
Seeking more than a cover-up, healing is necessary.
Hope is less than present but needed, so I try to do what I need to do. Each attempt to repair the damage that is done — the day-in-day out flaws that have become ingrained in my psyche — is another step.
It takes effort. It takes encouragement, and it takes understanding even if I can’t completely comprehend the history that led up to the marks on the façade.
I need to do the work.
At times trying is the best I can do when I know I want to do better.

the weather still

‘When’ is a question greater than ‘why’.
Important it is to know ‘when’ something will happen, rather than ‘what’ or ‘where’, because ‘when’ always involves a wait (that’s ‘when’ the ‘why’ kicks in).
   Our patience is tested.
‘When will we get there’ or ‘when is it time’? Both questions of our youth, at least, questions of mine.
Spring has arrived, but ‘when’ will it come? The weather still indicates winter is hardly done.
How can we wait, or ‘why’ is it we must? You might only find the answers ‘when’ you are ready to trust.

What Will It Take

Posted on August 16, 2019 by j.g.lewis // 2 Comments

Life, itself, is about spirituality,
about love, about sharing
and caring, and helping
each other out.
It seems we have forgotten
about peace and harmony.
In an age where we need to be
reminded of acceptance, of
diversity and inclusion, a
time when we should be
coming together, we often
seem so far apart.
What will it take to find the
peace that is needed?
We need to try harder, Today
would be a good day to start

Oh, that the spirit of those times would again rise up! I’m not sure one can “push harder” to share love. What was magical about those times is we just loved. We just shared. We just cared. We walked into a space of love and caring that was so big, so expansive, so embracing that we simply floated on it… beyond the confines of body/mind and rules. But we scared the crap out of the establishment who couldn’t grasp such love and freedom, and so what did they do? “The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people,” former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman told Harper’s writer Dan Baum for the April cover story published Tuesday.
“You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities,” Ehrlichman said. “We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.” Love almost won.

I maintain the belief that LOVE can win (a belief I refuse to ignore), but to do so we must battle the hate that has spilled into society. There is now – and you truthfully speak of – a political will to deny rights and freedom; to both confuse and condemn those who attempt to oppose the politics of power. This top-down injustice is allowed to flourish because people have stopped caring (not all of us, but…). I am but one who would love “the spirit of those times” to rise up again. So I tlak peace whenever I can. I try. We all need to try harder. deep peace to you.
