Month: April 2018
Naked trees,
vacancy in our landscape.
We abide,
patience tested, winter’s
protracted wrath.
Waiting
for the warmness
encouraging growth,
and colour, and
inspiration.
Spring denied,
a void in our lives.
In the meantime
we survive
with an extra sweater, or
two, cold hands, and
the hope for change.

The morn does not
simply come along.
You arrive
into the day,
thoughts emerging
in drowsy confusion.
Every day,
each moment
is different, but
begins with you.
Wherever you are,
do not rush the feelings.
Morning.
You have arrived.
Make this day,
this beginning,
all it can be.

APRIL IS POETRY MONTH
Take a poem to lunch
New poetry
every day
all month long
It’s poetry,
the shortest distance between
emotions and truth.
It screams, it whispers,
it packs a lunch
when no one else thinks
about nutrition.
Poetry
recognizes hypocrisy
and waits out
the hunger strike,
protesting the banality of
corporate catch phrases and
the mayhem of marketing.
A poem
will not be ignored.
It is patient, does not need
to be justified, wears no
best-before date, and
is always there for you.
