Month: January 2023
We cling to memories, even
subconsciously. Certain days,
and not always, continually play
with our unruled emotions.
Incidents of bliss, specific sorrows
or worse, leave lasting impressions.
It cannot be helped. We live through
experience: yesterday and today.
Reflected in our fragile faith is
a greater hope. We often do not,
or cannot, see past our cold,
current, restless reality.
It is not the truth that provides
our answers, but an unclear
deception of the question
lingering in our consideration.
Us fractured selves, not always
strong and stable, survive by
constructing our foundation of
what we see and how we know.
Hindsight is not honestly accurate.
May your need for yesterday
be slightly overshadowed by
the wistful wonder of tomorrow.

Dates:
the important ones
you remember,
before and after.
Consequential
occasions.
Some days are
everyday, some
are more
than you think,
recollect, or
give yourself
credit for.
Every day
is not
what it seems;
the dates change
daily.
You change,
not as noticeably
or as frequently
as the pages of a
calendar or agenda.
You do
what you have to do.
Time is more
than a collection
of days
and dates.

Posted on January 2, 2023 by j.g.lewisLeave a commentI have a new notebook, journal, day planner, and handful of new pencils at the ready to capture thoughts, reminders, prose and poetry in the days ahead.
What a wonderful way to begin the year: a clean slate.
Certainly, over the coming weeks and months, the pages will become dog-eared and damaged, sullied by reckless thoughts (obscene or otherwise), inconsequential concerns, and temperamental flashes of brilliance only I might understand or acknowledge, but what ends up on the page is only limited by a will and capacity to fill it up.
I will account for my time, scribble down appointments or messages, write out words (or a series thereof) that describe feelings, emotions and events as I, essentially, keep track of life.
I’m rarely at a loss for words. It is important to know there is always space for whatever I choose to record and create in the moment, as the moment arrives. Important as it is to have words and thoughts, it is crucial to have a place to leave them.
Write on.
