a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

conflict
Posted on July 7, 2024 by j.g.lewisLeave a comment

Thoughts and feelings are confusing at times.

Blissful memories or disturbing events, even trauma, reside together in our cluttered minds.

We are what we think no matter how calm we stive to be.

Gentle meditation may alleviate the conflict, even strike away the pain, but within our self this disturbance remains.

How we deal with the inner dichotomy is never certain, yet our attempts to quell difficult instincts and emotions remain a curious battle.  This is how we live; thoughtfully if nothing else.

Anxiety often contributes to a distorted perception of reality.

Only by thinking deeper will we understand all that our memory holds.

It is not always comfortable, but it is mindful.

It is how we will get through this life.

night thoughts 1:19

 Beyond insomnia, no
longer imagination, and
still questions.
The Moon’s mystery
need not keep you awake,
not when there are so
many earthly concerns
to occupy your mind
at 1:18 a.m.
Full Moon illuminates
our world, even through
clouds, even days later,
a sacred glow that sheds
no light on the difficulties
or dilemmas we face
time and again.
Often there are no answers.
The mysteries of the Moon
need not keep you awake,
but they will keep you alive.

last longer

than the season

Gwartzman’s Art Supplies at 448 Spadina Avenue, a regular stop for materials and inspiration, is closed for a few weeks. The nearly 80-year-old second-generation business — in an even older building in downtown Toronto — is undergoing a top to bottom renovation this summer. (I can wait to see it when completed).

Until is reopens, there is a pop-up store located inside Creeds Market and Coffee Bar at 450 Dupont St.

Last night I took in a creative evening at Creeds, a chance to experiment with watercolours, gouache, and chalk try out papers and products I’ve not used before.

It was a wonderful evening with gracious host Jackie Gwartzman. This was the first event planned for Thursdays throughout the summer, an evening to explore and enjoy. Check with Gwartmans to see when the next event happens

And yes, it is a happening. The no-pressure evening of non-judgemental art fit into my personal summer art immersion.

I had the opportunity to sample aquabord, by Ampersand Art Supply, an acid-free textured clay surface. I was pleased with the results. The stiff board absorbs watercolours like nothing else.

I was also impressed with the Aquarius Urban Sketching watercolour set, a tidy little package of five colours, ideal for when you are out and about in this wonderful city.
