Mondays are just young Fridays

‘What would it feel like to set an intention that wasn’t about accomplishing something?’
That’s a mouthful, it’s more than a question, but it was a thought posted last week by Susana Harwood Rubin that has kept me thinking about intention, and then, I suppose, goals. The yoga teacher and author wrote the post after reviewing her post-it note reminders of things she needed to accomplish in a day.
We are all, often, slave to the lists on the fridge or reminders programmed into our mobile devices. More often than not, our intentions are goal based; we need to get something done, so we set the goal or make plans to do such.
Perhaps, then, it is not an intention. Perhaps it is more.
Harwood Rubin, wrote that it was “creating aspirational lists of what an ideal me COULD POSSIBLY do.”
So Instead of creating lists or to-do reminders and disguising them as intentions, Harwood proposed setting intentions based on kindness or gentleness instead of results.
The intention may not sound as concrete, or as definite, as those that are result-oriented, but they sound true and authentic. A kindness-based intention sounds like something worthy of thinking on.
I’ve been thinking about it for almost a week, and will continue the thought process for the next few weeks. May was a tough month where my intentions got mixed up and my goals came down to deadlines.
I could use a month of gentleness.
Thus my intention for the month (at least) is rather simple:
be kind
be human
be you

I hope it works out. It is my intention.
I wish the same for you.

It’s finally June.

Gravity

I’m waiting patiently
for gravity to resume
its cosmic force,
where we are all
pulled together
without a sense of
fear or remorse.
I’m patiently waiting
for when distance is
not a barrier
and time can, again,
be shared, or when
over here
is as possible
as being over there.

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking.
They may get you thinking too . . .

Will Not Let Go

Our muscle memory
often will not let go
of things that do not
serve us as intended
or as they once did.
The weight of our
thoughts can drag
us down, hold us
back, or completely
stop us from doing
what we need to do.
It hinders and hurts.
We don’t know why
because we can’t tell
the difference.

Only Wednesday

Wednesday sits naked
and ordinary
waiting

between the bookends of social Saturday
and restive Sunday. The day is
little more

than a cluster of hours or a stop on the
treadmill. Indecisive and
lonely

nobody chooses a Wednesday. Nothing
happens
on a Wednesday

and it’s the same each week.

Sept 11/01, a Tuesday. London Subway bombings: July 7/05, a Tuesday, also July 21/05,
and also a Tuesday. Assassinations: John Lennon on a Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. a
Thursday, and John F. Kennedy a Friday. Kurt Cobain’s body was discovered on a
Wednesday, but he chose his way out three days earlier. Nothing happens on a
Wednesday.

There are fewer concerts mid-week, and opening night is never a Wednesday. They
never open the Olympics on a Wednesday. Nobody gets married on a Wednesday.

Yet I will choose Wednesday, or I will start with a Wednesday. I'll begin with a page, a
place where I can plant my thoughts. I have many thoughts, each week, every day (even
on Wednesday), but I will commit to posting something once a week. There are seven
days to choose from, and I chose Wednesday.

Now I may post something else on some other day, I’m like that (a true Gemini). If I am
moved or if I have time, if the stars align or the moon gives me a nudge, or if something
is really bothering me, I won’t wait for Wednesday. But I will post something each
Wednesday.

Something will happen each Wednesday, every week. Right here. If you want to see, or
wish to be reminded, sign up. There will also be a daily breath (usually 140 characters or
less) and it will not be limited to Wednesday, but will, or should, arrive every day.

Until Wednesday . . .
