a decade of days…

2025 is an anthology of thoughts du jour, unsolicited advice, messages of peace, philosophy, poetry, and photographs from the past decade of Mythos & Marginalia. In unchronological order, the years not as important as the dates, each post a reminder (if only to myself) that I do indeed write every damn day.

words we chose

It’s not always easy

to find the right words.

The words we use, the

words we choose,

leave shadows over time.

It takes time

to get past the past,

to sort out emotions

and reservations.

It takes patience

and faith to accept

who you are

and what we can be.

insomnia

In absence of light I tried
counting raindrops,
losing tally at three thousand, two
hundred and thirty-seven, or
forty
or so.
I was not counting them all; only
the loudest, the ones
I thought hurt the most.
The others, I am convinced
there were many, fell
silently, normally,
naturally.
Gravity.
I tire of counting.
Why
do we keep track
of things
that cause
pain?

learn by living

We learn from each other,
we always have; by example,
by mistake, by listening and
watching. We learn by living.
I’m proud of, and thankful for,
the women who have taught
me and continue to teach me
how to live and how to love.
I am still learning with you.

We are all human.
We all have the right
to be human. We see,
we know, we feel when
rights are violated
in this country or any
country. What will you
do about it? Now.
We are all human.

I don’t understand

I don’t know how
to forgive myself
for so many things
I have not discovered
and further mistakes
I will surely make.
I don’t understand
certain emotions
and behaviours, and
I likely never will,
but still I can try.

hard to believe

All of those reminders
you seem to ignore. To-do lists
and sticky notes, a calendar full
of times and dates and places
you need to be.
Easy to see. Hard to believe.
A schedule filled with time
that is never yours.
You do what you do, as
often as you can, in days
made up of meetings, some only
about the meetings
you just had.
Productivity has a purpose
lost in endless days.
Performance has a habit of
getting lost along the way.
It is not about the time, but
only the time you get.
It’s never what you remember,
but what you seem to forget.
