knowing
you can
always move forward
or turn around,
firmly believing.

a decade of days…

2025 is an anthology of thoughts du jour, unsolicited advice, messages of peace, philosophy, poetry, and photographs from the past decade of Mythos & Marginalia. In unchronological order, the years not as important as the dates, each post a reminder (if only to myself) that I do indeed write every damn day.

mind your mind

The mind is a huge sponge, each second of every day processing information, sights and sounds, directing you through tasks involved in everyday living. In all the excitement, though every activity, bits and pieces become trapped in your psyche. Some of this information is forgotten, or put aside, other times the residue of all the activity affects your nocturnal or unconscious thought.
The human will is an amazing thing. It can guide you to success, steer you through adversity, or just help you cope with what life throws at you. Willpower works through the daylight hours, but can also mold dreams and visions. Like any activity (music, yoga, art, science, theology) dreaming takes learning and practice. With some effort, and most of it done while you sleep, you are able to empower yourself by channeling your beliefs.

the reality we face

March will arrive tomorrow with the uncertainty we have become accustomed to, hiding the promise we hold and leaving room for confusion to fester.
Winter has been too long and we are waiting for the first signs of spring.
March gives us something to look forward to. Until then we are faced with winter.
March gives us snowflakes as tentative as our intentions or snowstorms as bitter as the reality we face week to month. March gives us a complete range of weather to match each emotion we feel.
I wish you fresh air and sunshine in the days ahead.

hard to believe

All of those reminders
you seem to ignore. To-do lists
and sticky notes, a calendar full
of times and dates and places
you need to be.
Easy to see. Hard to believe.
A schedule filled with time
that is never yours.
You do what you do, as
often as you can, in days
made up of meetings, some only
about the meetings
you just had.
Productivity has a purpose
lost in endless days.
Performance has a habit of
getting lost along the way.
It is not about the time, but
only the time you get.
It’s never what you remember,
but what you seem to forget.

not everyone cares

We are our own grief, we
fear our own fears, and we
are the reason to rise above
all that haunts us, tempts us,
or hurts us.
Nothing is inevitable.
Anyone has a reason, excuse,
or meaningful interpretation
of their own perceptions or
probabilities.
Not everyone cares.
What does it matter? You are
accountable only to yourself.
