Mythos & Marginalia

life notes between the lines and along the edges

  • Fear Not

    Ideas, arguments, and definite points
of view; the opinions we hold, and
the mythos or morals we adhere to
form the greater part of who and
    what we are.
We all have the right to speak freely,
and with intent, but we do need to
    be mindful of others.
      Our personality, our politics, poetry
and progress is compromised if we
hold back our thoughts, or if we are
    afraid of expressing ourselves.
Lose the fear of being wrong, but
recognize when you are. Keep your
    mind open. Respect others.
Know your rights, but also know
    what is wrong.

  • Ugly And Unwanted

We probably don’t need to be reminded,
every day, people in this world, in this life,
    are hurting. Even yourself.
You can feel it, some days more than others.
Most times you are able to
get past the doubt and delusion
for a little while. Most times. It comes back.
You know. You don’t need to be reminded,
    but you are. Often.
A scrap of paper, a certain date, a song
from a passing car, can easily evoke
    feelings of anger, of discontent,
of a pain greater than discomfort. It’s there,
in the pit of your being. Cracks flow
deep beyond the surface. It is ugly,
and unwanted. A true hurt. A scar slices deep
into the marrow of your existence.
Fractures and faults. You know hurting,
or inching your way through the pain,
can make you stronger. You are not sure
    how. Or when.
You do not know why. You know it hurts,
and you hate to be reminded.
How strong do you need to be?
    How do you find empathy?
How is it you can see
circumstances have changed over the years,
but not the cause of the pain.
All that remains is the hurt.

  • Each Of Us

    All you know
    and all
    you can be
    does not need
    to reflect
    what goes on
    around you.
    Each of us
    is influenced by
    the sounds
    and subtleties
    of everyday life,
    though
    there is no need
    to be a replica of
    anything else.
    Being yourself
    shouldn’t
    take effort.

  • Mondays are just young Fridays

I write in my journal most every day, thoughts about where I am and what I am feeling. Random things most of the time, I think it allows me to easier deal with my thoughts.
There is nothing as inspiring as a blank page.
Every day begins like a blank page. There is space to wonder, and space to fill. Some days I may write similar things, just as other days I may do the same things I did yesterday, or last week. We all have that day-to-day stuff we need to do, just as we also try a new activity or experience.
Some days we see the same people. Some days we wonder how they are feeling, as much as we wonder about our own emotions or progress. So we write. Life is, at times, easier when it is all spelled out. At times we have to read between the lines.
Important, then, we have the space. Important how we spend our time.
Each day is a blank page. Not all of them are the same. Some days the ink flows, other days we spend more time correcting mistakes. Sometimes there is more space, sometimes it is darker. All too often it is ruled.
Each page has a purpose. Every day has a purpose. It is important to fill it up.
      Make it meaningful.
      Today is new page.
      Write on.

  • Step By Step

    Small gestures, little moves,
    nuances, increments each day,
all add up to a subtle shift,
    a slow alteration to patterns
    and pathos.
    True life is lived gradually.
Step by step you do not notice
the changes, but change in the
process. It is how we live.
