Mythos & Marginalia

life notes between the lines and along the edges

  • Be Thankful

Together we walk across this planet, each of us moving at our own pace and direction. Some of us may step tentatively, while others forge ahead determinedly. We all move forward.
There is no proper way to navigate the fragility of this space; each of us will cross obstacles of our own, in a way that is fitting for our circumstance.
      We chose our own path.
Yet we all need to consider that we have more in common than we realize, and still our differences can keep us apart.
It is up to each of us to appreciate these differences; in that way we must be similar. Together we walk.
Be thankful for all you have, show gratitude for what others bring to our world, and appreciate all those differences.
      Thank you for your presence.
I wish you the best for 2018.

  • Just Like That

    It doesn’t take long
    for nights to blur
    into months
    or years,
    or beyond.
    Fractured thought,
    a broken timeline,
    then barely
    a fragment of
    a second,
    or
    nothing at all.
    Do you remember
    what was there
    before?
    Memories often
    disappear
    just like that.

  • Three Years In

Three years ago I opened up this website, and each day, every day since, I have been writing and posting something right here.
In many ways it still surprises me. Three months before I began this project, I really had no idea I would be doing this. In fact, I questioned the need or the purpose.
This has been a total learning process. I knew, coming into this, about graphics and design, photography, formatting and coding, but only from a newspaper perspective. I was very familiar with layout pages, and pica sticks and marking up pages by pencil. I soon learned, first hand, there were few similarities.
Three years in, I continue learning, and relearning, about this vast digital world and the growth and evolution of social media. I’m always learning, and I’m still trying to keep up.
The learning keeps me interested, but is still secondary to the purpose.
    It is all about communication.
We, as humans, now have more ways to communicate than we ever have had before. It is fast, it is furious, and it is right there.
It is instant, and I like to think it is important.
Thank you for reading, thank you for liking, and following, and commenting.
      Thank you for being here.

  • Right Now

    Plans and promises are often
    ignored, forgotten, or broken.
    Resolutions are risky, and
    wishes don’t always come true.
    You continue looking ahead,
    wondering why or when,
at times to the point where
you forget where you are going,
    or even where you are.
What matters most is that you
    are present in the moment.
Where you are is the only place
you need to be. It is the only
place you can be right now.

  • See The Need

The seasonal lights dim, holidays soon will draw to a close, and we return to day-to-day living. Still we cannot forget circumstances, and the need for giving.

So many of us are fortunate to have a roof over our head, food in the fridge, and money in the bank. Sadly, others are not.

    We all see the need.

We live in uncertain times. In this vast global community, or just down the street, we all know of needs that current resources will not meet. Budgets are stretched, programs require increased funding, and, more than ever, we are being asked to help our fellow beings.

Choose a charity, or two, and provide what you can. Money is good, but so is your time.

Not a hand out, but a hand up; a familiar adage we have all heard before. Regularly, but more so in the festive season, we are asked to help those unable to care for themselves.

This season of sharing is the season of caring, and we cannot simply stop.

Keep giving, continue living , and remember the spirit of the season is more than forgiving.

Do your part, do what you can. Know your heart and lend a hand.
