Mythos & Marginalia

life notes between the lines and along the edges

  • Preserve What You Can

Each season has a taste and
    a time, offering remembrances
    of those before and anticipation
    for what may happen next.
    Every season begins anew and
then fades into the next, a cycle
which honors us, and then lets go,
as it must. Life is full of days and
weeks, months, and years. As they
    ripen, savor the moments, preserve
what you can, and then be open to
change as you allow fresh tastes,
and the coming time, lively thoughts
    and open minds.

  • You You You

    You trust
    what you must.

    You see
    what you want to see.

    You believe
    as much as you can
    before the doubt
    settles in.

  • Always

    Often we fail, but rarely
    do we fully understand
    the circumstances or
    cause of the setback.
It’s not that there is not
a reason, or a lesson, to
    the experience; we simply
    choose to assiduously
    concentrate on the result
    instead of realistically
    examining our efforts,
    Why always has an answer.

  • What Happened

            Confused by what is important,
       outside of the deception,
       outside of the party lines,
              guided by misplaced trust.
      We have become
    disciples of those with
       as many faces
            as hands.
        Did you know
                 the ramifications of what they’re
            saying or the power
            they have?
                               Politics.
    I wonder what is important
          outside of the violence
          outside of the gleaming excesses.
              I don’t think this world
needs to hear more political apologies
    every single day.
      We all lead hectic lives,
we think – or hope – that I or anyone
    can be forgiven for forgetting
         what happened when
         we trusted
    leadership and looking forward.
            No accountability.
         We do not
blame – or fault – you, I or anyone
trapped by this contagion, this sin
       brought on
         by ego and ignorance.
            Politics. The evil within.

  • night thoughts 4:04

    What beliefs, thoughts, or
    random confusion, keeps you
    awake at night?
    Does it happen often?
How do you deal with it,
at the time, or in the days and
    weeks that follow?
I don’t wish to believe in the
    soul-sucking cacophony of
    ego-battling ideologies,
    but I’ve become drawn into
the debate simply as a means
    of protecting my humanity, or
    maintaining my sanity.
It’s not fair, and it is not
    right, but at 4:04 a.m.,
    I find myself searching for
    ways to protect myself.
    How do you keep yourself
    safe from spineless demons or
    or self-centered shareholders
    concerned with only profit or
    pain?
