Tipping Point
Each day we are bombarded with news of CONVID-19; two more cases were reported in Ontario overnight, and in the past week we’ve heard more about the elevated spread of the coronavirus in Korea, Italy and Iran.
China remains the most infected country, and the source, of the worldwide epidemic, but each time another country posts another case our fear increases.
Globally, more than 80,000 people have been infected. Last Friday the World Health Organization upgraded the global risk of the coronavirus outbreak to “very high” – its top level of risk assessment.
It becomes less likely, daily, that the virus can be contained. So, when will this virus move from an epidemic to a pandemic?
In his 2000 debut book, The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell used the premise of how an idea spreads like a virus. The book, considered a “must-read” for businesses and marketers (and a thoughtful read for anybody else) explains the elements required for an idea to hit critical mass, and then go viral when it hits the tipping point.
You cannot help but think of the virus Gladwell originally wrote about in his book. You cannot help think about CONVID-19.
When will this outbreak reach the tipping point, or has it already?
