Mythos & Marginalia

life notes between the lines and along the edges

May 2022

  • Leave The Days Behind

    Deceitful May.
    Consistent in its will
    to disappoint, May suffers
    a perennial identity crisis.
    Not quite summer,
    too short-sighted to be
    emboldened by a dreadful spring,
the month fails to show potential
    of a wonderful journey ahead.
    Summer already
    too brief, May does not
    extend the season in any
    meaningful way. As such, we
    leave the days behind and
    can only hope June
will give us what we need,
    want or desire.
    Can I look forward
    to greater warmth, brighter days,
    an abundance of smiles, hugs,
and the joy I often find in June?

  • Mondays are just young Fridays

    Last week was last week.
       We begin this week anew.
A new day, another chance to deal with the discrepancies, deceptions, and dead-end starts that failed to materialize.
Sadly, we become distracted by the disappointments.
It’s okay. Not everything needs to be completed at once. In fact, some things are better kept in an uncompleted state.
       You have other priorities.
Let the past remain where it sits, there are better days ahead.

  • Begin

    Get started.

    It takes work.

    It takes practice.

    Begin.

  • Certainty

       we litigate our sorrows

       mediate happiness

       negotiate contentment

    barter wisdom for unsuspecting logic

    did we stop

    looking

    for the trust

    for the certainty

    in what we know

       what we carry

       veiled imperfections

       spiteful recollection

       accepted resentment

    the perseverance of inadequacies

    as we keep

    close

    to the truth

    to the familiar

    to what we know

       what we carry

       compromised ethics

       unwritten guarantees

       pathetic promises

admit what you have lived through

  • Why?

This happened yesterday, in Toronto, in my city.
       What can I say?
       What should I think?
       Why?
       This can happen anywhere.
This man was walking down the street with a gun, apparently towards a school.
       What was he thinking?
       Why?
