Mythos & Marginalia

2015 – 2025: a decade of days

a daily breath

  • again

I was surprised, again, this morning.
As night, again, was fading away I glanced up (as I often do) to get my bearings as I settle into what will soon become daylight.
There was Jupiter, again, gazing down at me.
The fifth planet from the Sun has been hanging around for a while, noticeable in a way I hadn’t noticed until this year.
I have never paid much attention to Juniper before, not even so much concerned with galaxies or stars and constellations. The Moon (in any phase) has always, or often, been my focus.
Not that long ago, in an early morning attempt to photograph a recent Full Moon, another light, a celestial delight, captured my attention. It was Jupiter. The planet has been especially visible in the night sky. In fact, this October there will be many planets more apparent than at other times of the year. This is, apparently, a good month for stargazing.
       Juniper, this morning, reminded me.
I have many earthly concerns that have been absorbing me lately, but this planet’s presence this morning reminds me that we cannot always stay focused on what is directly ahead of us.
I know I need to expand my vision. Sometimes we all must look up to be surprised.

  • Post-Thanksgiving Thoughts

As the world as I’ve known it continues to unravel, I find myself grappling, even grasping, for any thread of hope.
I am incensed by the wars and hatred.
I question where all of this will lead.
My post-Thanksgiving thoughts — when only yesterday I expressed my gratitude for being fortunate to live in a peaceful country like I do — are clouded with concern for the entire human race.
I watch the televised news as it happens so far away from where I am.
       Canada.
       I feel safe here.
I am distraught knowing that there are citizens of this planet, fellow human beings, who will never feel what I have known my entire life: peace.
I feel hopeless somehow knowing there is so little I can do.
       I need more hope.
       We all need more peace.

  • Mondays are just young Fridays

In a matter of days, the temperature has caught up with the month.
For weeks now the heat has been ever-present, even at night. Seasonally unusual, but appreciated. The leaves on the trees have hardly changed to the resplendent colours you expect this time of year.
The few roses remaining on the bushes at my favorite park have wilted more from lack of precipitation than anything else. The leftover rain from yesterday reminds us how things change.
       We have been blessed.
This is a time to be thankful for what is there, for what surrounds us, even as this morning’s chilly temperatures remind us how fortunate we are.
This is Thanksgiving weekend in Canada.
With all that is going on in the world, this is truly a time to be thankful for where we are.

  • life notes

    What is your excuse?

    Do you have a reason?

  • Mondays are just young Fridays

    Begin the day believing
    something wonderful will
    happen. Not just any day,
    but today.     It could.
    Think of not what could
    go wrong, but what will
    go remarkably right.
       You’ve got all day, what
    will happen?     What do
    you want to happen?
        Make it happen.
