we weep

through scenes

at discordant notes
of movie scores

occasional television
commercials or even

unexpected memory

images often unfolding
in our mind’s knowing

take my handkerchief
clean but old

it has a purpose

wipe away
those salty tears

before they are absorbed
in this tainted atmosphere

and come back

to haunt us
