Sit by the fire.

No longer are you annoyed

by the slight chill of August.

No longer are you

thinking of the day past or

of all the days yet to come.

You simply sit.

It is more than meditative,

or haltingly contemplative,

it is so quiet.

And the fire tells its stories

so you simply sit and listen.

Mondays are just young Fridays

August now.

   July was swift, and though I believe it was far too busy, it’s hard to recall anything meaningful happening. July was that sort of a month.

   I do know I didn’t spend enough time on my art; July is often like that. What happens in July usually becomes an attempt to deal with the many unexpected priorities that take over my life. When all is said and done, they were not the priorities I was counting on.

   So, this August I will, again, make art my priority. August seems to allow the time.

   In past years, August has been all about the art. In 2020, I started an Artful August Immersion and most years since have followed suit.

   As it happens, I’ve got an opening this Friday for a group show I am participating in. I’d almost forgotten about it during July. I dropped off the two prints I’m exhibiting last Friday and, I guess, that helped set my mood for the forthcoming month.

   This year, this August, I’ve got a few projects that need my attention but, more so, I’ve got plans that need to be further developed. They won’t advance until I spend time on them. I will this August.

stay cool

Play it safe.
Keep it simple.
Go look at some art.
Climb on a bike.
Pick out a favourite
album (or three) and
turn up the hi-fi.
Go to a new restaurant
with an old friend, or
have a picnic in the park.
Treat yourself to ice cream.
Don’t read yesterday’s news
(or social media feeds).
Turn off the phone.
Stay cool.
No matter what you do, or
how you do it, don’t let the
weight of the week
crush the spirit of
the next few days.
Summer is already to short,
maximize your life.
Adjust your attitude.
Be good to your self.
Have a great weekend.

your own context

Clarity takes time and acceptance.

We may struggle to understand each facet of daily life as it is presented to us; life itself moves far too swiftly. How often are we permitted the space and reality to consider what it has done to us, or what we are doing with it.

Life is one big concept. It changes, as we do, at times with no notice. How can we comprehend the capacity of our own timeline when variables continue to inflict unknown control?

This is life; at its core there is indelible authenticity. Find your own truth, first and foremost. By understanding your own context, you will be more capable of dealing with that of others.

It can be daunting. Radical acceptance becomes more crucial than radical thought.

it is what it is

The days are not always easy and,

many times, will seem unexpected.

There are periods where it’s simply

not going your way, or seems to be

moving in the wrong direction. Life

is lived as it is, at the time or in the

moment. It is what it is, at times will

get better, and you continue seek far

more consistency. Rarely do you take

charge of your life the way it appears

to take hold of you. It just happens.

You feel time expand and contract as

you grow older. It is a force you will

live with and don’t always notice how

life goes on. Until you do. That’s life.
