How does one measure progress?

Are the results plainly obvious, or do they remain hidden in the attempt?

Each step of the process leaves residue of intention, but when is it enough?

When do you see the meaning or the satisfaction of completion?

even haphazardly.

      We deal with it,

    as we can, as we

   should, naturally

accepting

Mondays are just young Fridays

For months I’ve been meaning to get around to a project that should have been completed ages ago. But, for many reasons off and on over the past year, the project has not been done Yes, there have been a couple of false starts but, for the most part, little has really been done (certainly not to my satisfaction).

   It’s a project that, once complete, will essentially finish off a series of projects that have been undertaken over the past 14 or 16 months. Still, I haven’t found the time or made the time.

   This week I will: beginning today.

   Today is as good a day as any, and tomorrow and Wednesday are both wide-open and available. Quite frankly, the rest of the week is waiting for me to complete this task.

   Already I am ready to get it done.

always consistent

Time is a contradiction,
a distinct barrier between
now and when, or fact and
trend. If it is not a signal,
then it will be a sign. It is
only time; time to waste
or to embrace as it is.
Nothing stops time, not
even the strongest mind.
In that way we are then
held hostage by the clock.
In other ways it is our
freedom to leave behind
the wrongs of time.
The clock on the wall, the
watch on your wrist,
always consistent and
never a twist, not naturally.
Time is what we will see,
in memory or reality.

steps to the season

Mornings you walk briskly; frost is soon to settle on the city and the overnight temperatures remind us of the seasons to come.

Afternoons, however, are more leisurely. You find yourself slowing down or suddenly stopping to admire the sun highlighting the multitude of colours in the leaves. Take the time, now, for the trees can only impress you for a little while longer.

There are several steps to the season. Soon everything will be leafless and lifeless. Then winter will inch its way into our lives.

Enjoy October while you still can.

little time

The night only knows, the
light only shows, what you
are prepared to absorb.

It gets quiet and coldest
right before the sun decides
what kind of day it will be.

You have little time to remind,
no shame or no pride, as you
feel like you’re coming alive.
