I find it hard
to accept changes
I am not responsible for.

So many things
remain out of my control:
– government policy
– the cost of butter
   or blue jeans
– my allotted Scrabble tiles
– the weather

I cannot be held accountable
to actions not of my control.

It is not my intention
to be difficult.

I find it hard
to accept responsibility
for even my own changes.

Forgive yourself for
all of those promises you
didn’t get around to, or for
the phone calls unreturned
or unanswered, and all
the pain you didn’t even
try to mop up.
Some days you simply
didn’t have the strength,
sometimes you don’t have
the time, and in others ways
you weren’t of sound mind.
Some days you can only
do what you can do.
Is this one of those days?

The country
                       is large,

populated by
a nation of consumers.

Divided

by misfits
and dreamers and
some of us
                     who care.

Didn’t we all
at one time?
