July is halfway done.
Summer is what it is, but
not what it should be.
How long has it been?
We won’t all admit we
share the same pain. We
don’t really know what
anyone else feels, or how
everyone deals with this,
this, now. Is it normal?
Does it even come close?
Even as life is opening up
we don’t all know how to
behave like we used to.
Where do we go from here?
When will we realize how
far we have come?

time required
is not time lost
take the time before
it is taken away
do not rush
you have got all day

Through the night,
some time
awake and wondering,
as often I do,
What am I missing?
Routine occurrence.
Random shame,
specifically
of nothing.
Why do I wonder?
Dreams restore,
remind us what happened,
when and why who
said what.
Why do I not remember?
Insomnia illustrates little
of what it should.
If I wasn’t awake
now and again.
What am I missing?

The night
accepts the silence,
appreciates
the soft, steady breath
of lovers
and dogs.
New Moon
shows as no moon can.
High resolution
darkness softening
hard edges
and difficult lives.
Here we are,
part of the silence,
immune to
time and temperature,
and words
once spoken.
